I played the St. Andrews Castle Course in today which is the newest of the St. Andrews courses about two miles south of town. There are some photos below and a few more here.

CastleCourseThe Castle Course was designed by David Kidd who also designed the Bandon Dunes course. It has a similar feel to Bandon Dunes but I think it is more difficult primarily due to the severely undulating greens. The slope of the Yellow tees on the Castle Course is 135 while the Green tees at Bandon Dunes are 133.

Course Rating

I rate the course as follows:

The Course - 4 of 5
Facilities & Service - 4 of 5
Value for Money - 3 of 5

Very friendly staff and good pace of play. Like Bandon Dunes, the greens are fescue and they are reasonably fast. I would definitely like to play this course again.
